Performance Comparison of Server Load Distribution with FTP and HTTP

چکیده
A Web server’s constraint on the number of pages it can serve simultaneously is largely because of two factors: the bandwidth available and the Web server itself. When a website is popular and if there is only one web server responding to all the incoming HTTP requests for a website it may be possible that the capacity of the web server may not be able to handle high volumes of incoming traffic. The increase in traffic and connections to the website can lead to a point where the upgrading of server hardware will no longer be cost effective. Thus, more servers need to be added to distribute the load among the group of servers. The load distribution among these servers is known as load balancing. In this paper we are analyzing the performance of HTTP network for optimum load balancing using OPNET.

Design and Applicability of a Transparent
In this paper we present the design, applicability and preliminary experimental results of the network redirection layer developed at the University of Freiburg as part of Plexor, a load-balancing and fault-tolerance middleware framework. The non-invasive nature of our layer allows all dynamically-linked network applications to beneet from our framework without the need to recompile them, which...
متن کاملThe state in TCP and Its Effect on Busy Servers
Hosts providing important network services such as HTTP and FTP incur a per-connection memory load from TCP that can adversely affect their connection rate and throughput. The memory requirement is directly tied to the number of connections; caching and other sharing methods will not alleviate it. We hav e observed HTTP throughput reductions of as much as 50% under SunOS 4.1.3 due to this loadi...

Individual machines are no longer sufficient to handle the offered load to many Internet sites. To use multiple machines for scalable performance, load balancing, fault transparency, and backward compatibility with URL naming must be addressed. A number of approaches have been developed to provide transparent access to multi-server Internet services including HTTP redirect, DNS aliasing, Magic ...
متن کاملSession Based Admission Control: a Mechanism for Web QoS
Evaluation of web server performance generally focuses on achievable throughput and latency for request-based type of workload as a function of traffic load. SpecWeb96 benchmark is an industry standard for measuring Web Servers performance. It is based on generating HTTP requests to retrieve different length files accordingly to a particular distribution. The server performance (throughput) is ...
